The sleep surface is upholstered on both sides with bonded Platinum Certified British fleece wool and cotton — a 1,350gsm layer that sits directly against the ticking. British fleece wool is naturally hygroscopic, drawing moisture away from the body and releasing it into the air, so the surface stays dry across temperature shifts through the night. Beneath it, a second layer of blended Platinum Certified British fleece wool and cotton adds depth to the feel without introducing synthetic materials.
The spring system comprises 1,716 hand-nested vanadium steel pocket springs in a King size, each individually encased in breathable calico cotton. That count, distributed across the mattress surface, means each spring works independently, responding to localised weight rather than transmitting movement across the bed. Vanadium steel holds its temper through years of compression and recovery in a way that lower-grade alloys do not. The border is upholstered with protective wool and finished with two rows of hand side-stitching, which firms the perimeter and extends the usable sleep surface to the edge of the mattress. Hand-tufting with felt washers anchors the fillings at regular intervals, preventing them from shifting or compressing unevenly over time.
