In a King size, 1,716 Vanadium steel springs are individually nested by hand inside calico pockets, each coil moving without reference to its neighbours so that two sleepers exert no mechanical influence on each other. The spring is made from Vanadium steel, an alloy that resists fatigue and holds its calibrated tension across years of nightly compression. Four tension options, Soft, Medium, Firm, and Extra Firm, are available at the point of order; King sizes can be specified in split firmness, so partners with different weight or preference draw from the same spring system without compromise.
The upholstery layers above the springs are composed exclusively of natural fibres: bonded British fleece wool and cotton, and blended British fleece wool and cotton. Wool, drawn from British flocks, regulates temperature passively by absorbing and releasing moisture vapour through the night, and it holds its loft without synthetic reinforcement. Cotton contributes an even, breathable base that prevents the filling stack from compressing unevenly over time. The ticking is described as finest quality and is finished in the house style of the collection.
The border is upholstered with protective wool and worked with two rows of hand side-stitching, which anchors the spring edge to the border wire and preserves the usable sleeping surface to the very perimeter of the mattress. The mattress is hand-tufted with felt washers, which compress the filling layers into a consistent density and prevent migration across the surface. Horizontal handles and perimeter air vents complete the construction; the vents draw air through the filling stack as the sleeper moves, reinforcing what the wool already does by passive exchange.
