The sleep surface is a wool and viscose ticking, fine enough to transmit the responsiveness of the layers beneath while the wool content wicks moisture away from the body. Beneath it, the fillings are arranged in three distinct stages: a bonded British fleece wool and cotton layer at the surface, which provides immediate resilience and breathability; a layer of British fleece wool alone, adding loft and passive temperature regulation; and a blended British fleece wool and cotton stratum closer to the spring unit, which distributes load evenly before it reaches the coils.
The spring system is a single row of hand-nested calico pocket springs, each made from Vanadium steel. In a King size, 2,058 springs respond independently to weight and movement, absorbing pressure without transferring it across the bed. The border is upholstered with protective wool, reinforced with two rows of hand side-stitching that lock the perimeter springs into position and keep the sleep surface consistent to the very edge. Hand-tufting with felt washers holds the fillings in alignment through the mattress’s depth, preventing migration that would otherwise create uneven support over time.
