The sleep surface is covered in a viscose and cotton ticking: viscose draws moisture away from the body, cotton allows air to circulate, and together they keep the surface cool without the need for synthetic materials. Beneath the cover, British fleece wool provides an immediate, responsive cushion that adjusts to body weight without bottoming out. The horsetail and Real Shetland Wool blend that follows works differently — horsetail is coarse and springy by nature, giving the filling layer a buoyancy that neither wool alone nor synthetic foam can replicate, while the Shetland wool moderates its texture and adds further thermal regulation. Silk and mohair sit within the upholstery stack as well, both fine-fibred materials that contribute softness and warmth retention in proportion. Organic cotton rounds out the filling, lending a firm, stable base to the upholstery layers above it.
The spring system is a two-layer, hand-nested calico pocket construction using Vanadium steel: 3,496 springs in a King size respond individually to movement, so pressure at one point does not transfer across the mattress. Four rows of hand side-stitching hold the border firm and square, maintaining the full sleep surface to the edge. Hand-tied woollen tufts drawn through the full depth of the mattress anchor each filling layer in place, preventing migration and preserving the original feel of the upholstery over time.
