The ticking is woven from wool and viscose, a pairing that keeps the cover soft against the skin while the viscose adds durability to a fabric subjected to decades of use. Beneath it, a layer of hand-teased Devonshire fleece wool provides the immediate give — teasing opens the fibres so air moves freely through them, which moderates temperature through the night rather than trapping it. A further layer of British fleece wool beneath that adds depth and resilience, so the surface does not compress unevenly over time.
The spring system consists of a single tier of 1,716 hand-nested, calico-pocketed Vanadium steel coils in a King size. Each spring sits within its own calico pocket and responds to weight independently, so two sleepers of different builds are supported without interference between them. Vanadium steel holds its tension longer than standard carbon steel, which is why Vispring applies it across the range. The Devonshire is available in four tension options — Soft, Medium, Firm, and Extra Firm — and King sizes can be split across the centre for partners with different preferences. Two rows of hand side-stitching secure the border coils to the mattress edge, keeping the sleeping surface firm and consistent to the very perimeter. Hand-tufting with felt washers anchors the fillings in place at regular intervals, preventing any lateral shift that would otherwise create unevenness after years of use.
